Create New Template

Creates a WhatsApp message template and submits it to Meta for approval.

Before you call

  • name: lowercase letters, numbers and underscores only, up to 512 characters.
  • language and category (MARKETING, UTILITY or AUTHENTICATION) are required.
  • components.body.text is required (up to 1024 characters); add example values for any body variables.
  • An IMAGE, VIDEO or DOCUMENT header needs example.link (a media URL).
  • Carousel templates are MARKETING only: send body + carousel.cards (1–10 cards); top-level header, footer and buttons are not allowed.
  • Each card has an IMAGE or VIDEO header with example.link (same format on all cards), a body of up to 160 characters, and 1–2 buttons.
  • Card buttons are QUICK_REPLY, URL or PHONE_NUMBER, with the same types in the same order on every card.
  • COPY_CODE buttons need MARKETING.
  • Send wabaNumbers (with country code) to choose the channels. If you leave it out, the template is created on one channel that DoubleTick picks.

How it works

  • New templates start as PENDING until Meta reviews them. Use Get Templates to check status and get the template id.
  • The template is created once for each WhatsApp Business Account and saved on every number in that account.
  • The response is only success: true. If any account accepts the template, the call succeeds and other accounts' failures are not reported, so check per channel with Get Templates.
  • Fails if a template with the same name and language already exists. Also fails if the name is in use with a different category.

Rate limit

  • 60 requests per minute.
